For families and individuals continuing to experience financial difficulties, despite receiving other forms of aid. “Families may experience an unexpected medical emergency or a job loss, for example, that can affect their ability to pay their utility bills,” said Freni. “Higher market costs for energy supply so far this winter may also contribute to the need. The Good Neighbor Fund provides a way for our customers, together with CH Energy Group shareholders, to provide help when families need it most.” The program is administered by the Salvation Army, and provides up to two lifetime benefits of $125 as a last resort payment toward utility bills, after all other forms of financial assistance have been used.
To contribute to the program, customers simply check the box on their utility bill for the Good Neighbor Fund, indicating their donation in a whole-dollar amount, and adding that amount to their payment. CH Energy Group shareholders match customer contributions to the fund.
